How you could help save 34,000 kilos of waste from landfill

There’s less than two weeks to go until Ipswich’s Garage Sale Trail event, with residents across the region getting involved in the name of sustainability.

More than 205 garage sale events are currently registered across Ipswich, with thousands of residents expected to take part in the nationwide event on 21 and 22 November.

Environment and Sustainability Committee chair Councillor Russell Milligan said the Ipswich City Council region had one of the highest number of sales in Queensland.

“It’s fantastic to see the Ipswich community throw its support behind this year’s Garage Sale Trail,” Cr Milligan said.

“With more than 200 sale events registered in Ipswich, we’re currently in the top three council areas with the most garage sales which is great news for our local environment and everyone taking part in the trail.

“The Garage Sale Trail a great opportunity for residents to do their bit for the environment while also making or saving money in the process.”

Camira resident Trevor Smith is currently sorting through his shed, preparing items and setting up for his sale, Tricky’s Trash and Treasure.

“I desperately need to declutter, my shed is overflowing,” Mr Smith said.

“It’s easy to register and it’s helping to keep me motivated as I’ve thought of garage sales before but have chickened out at the last minute.”

Mr Smith will be selling a wide variety at his garage sale from furniture, power tools and machinery to fishing gear and weight lifting equipment.

He’ll also have some unique items up for grabs at his sale.

“I’ll be trimming down my walking stick collection,” he said.

“I also will move some antiques and collectibles.”
