Enviroplan is safeguarding our natural heritage

As Deputy Mayor of Ipswich and Chairperson of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, my commitment to preserving our natural environment through the Enviroplan Program is unwavering.

Ipswich has been a trailblazer in environmental stewardship, being among the first local governments to implement a levy aimed at safeguarding and enhancing our precious ecosystems. The Enviroplan Annual Progress Report for 2022-2023 highlights the significant strides we’ve made in landowner conservation support and hazard mitigation, thanks to the collective efforts of our community and council.

With a total investment of $3.9 million in conservation land acquisition, partnerships, and environmental management, we’ve expanded our conservation efforts across 6,700 hectares of critical habitat. From restoring cleared areas like the Denmark Hill Conservation Reserve to fortifying our defenses against bushfires through increased hazard mitigation measures, our dedication to preserving Ipswich’s natural beauty is evident.

But our work doesn’t stop there. We’re committed to empowering landowners with the knowledge and resources they need to play a proactive role in conservation. Through initiatives like landholder support days, we’re fostering a culture of sustainable land management that benefits both our residents and our environment.

Our urban biodiversity is the lifeblood of Ipswich, contributing to the health and wellbeing of our community and native wildlife alike. I am immensely proud to champion the Enviroplan Program and its vital role in safeguarding our natural heritage for generations to come.

Together, let’s continue to nurture and protect Ipswich’s natural environment, ensuring a greener, healthier future for all.
