People before politics: Russell Milligan to run for Division 4

Former Ipswich City Council Deputy Mayor and proud Division 4 resident, Russell Milligan, has vowed to put people before politics as he puts his hand up to run in the upcoming Division 4 by-election.

Announcing his candidacy today, Russell Milligan said he was surprised by Council’s decision to defy community sentiment and proceed with a by-election but remained committed to continuing his track record as a Division 4 Councillor who puts the community first.

“I have only one agenda, that’s to be a hardworking, effective and ethical representative for the people of Division 4. Having lived at Brassall in Division 4 for more than 12 years and at Rosewood prior to that, my community is my highest priority,” said Mr Milligan.

“As the former Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor, I have proven myself as someone who can put politics aside and work with the Mayor and Councillors to make decisions in the best interests of the residents of Division 4 and our entire City of Ipswich.

“I am excited by the opportunity to represent the residents of Division 4 once again, using my deep knowledge of the local issues and my established relationships within my community to hit the ground running.”

Russell Milligan added that he will proudly be running as an independent candidate in the Division 4 by-election and has never been a member of or had an affiliation with any political party.

“I firmly believe that party politics has no place in our Council, and I offer a truly independent choice for residents who feel that people should always come before politics,” said Mr Milligan.

“This has obviously been a significant challenge for Ipswich City Council in the past and remains a real threat to our city’s future.

“I am committed to ensuring respect, honesty and integrity remain front and centre at Ipswich City Council as I seek to serve the residents of Division 4.”

In addition to representing Division 4, Russell Milligan was previously the Deputy Mayor, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, Deputy Chair of the Governance and Transparency Committee and Deputy Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group.

Russell Milligan is a proud veteran, having served as a commissioned officer (Platoon Commander) in the Military Police, as well as having run his own small business in Ipswich.
